Protect your skin with 7 plant-based sources of B3 (Niacin)

Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is a micronutrient that our body needs for proper metabolism, nervous system function and antioxidant protection. It has also been shown to be an effective way of treating solar keratoses (“sun spots”) and there is evidence it can prevent common skin cancers.

Niacin is an essential nutrient which we must get from food, as our body cannot produce it naturally. It is water soluble, so any excess that the body doesn't need will be excreted through our urine rather than stored in our body. Therefore, we have to regularly consume niacin-rich foods to keep replenishing.

Plant-based sources of B3 include avocado, whole grains, brown rice, mushrooms, peanuts, potatoes, and green peas. You may also find it in vegan fortified grains and other foods.
