What does it mean to be vegan?

Veganism is both a philosophy and way of life; vegans avoid foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, and all animal-derived ingredients like whey (from milk), gelatin (from animal bones) and anmal rennet (from young ruminant animals such as calves and lambs).

Veganism is also about not wearing or using products where animals have been used in the process such as leather, fur, silk, and wool, and also involves vigilence whne choosing cosmetics, cleaning products, pet foods, medications (such as gel caps), glues in your sneakers (made by the process of boiling  connective tissues), etc.

Vegananism is also about buying from ethical providers amd manufacturers who don't use or abuse animals in their processing, that includes not exploiting or harming animals for human benefit.

A vegan diet consists of an abundance of delicious and nutritious plant-based foods such as fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds, rather than consuming traditional burgers, sausages, or steaks, etc.  Dairy cheese on pizza or cow’s milk in coffee is replaced with equally satisfying plant-based versions such as oat, soy or almond milk.

Every animal-derived ingredient has a plant-based alternative thereby reducing harm to animals and human health and our carbon footprint.
